Herbie HANCOCK under fusion

If i should only a fistful of artists that had influenced me a lot on my "black side" i would keep PRINCE, Fela KUTI, and Herbie HANCOCK. Innovation, activism, research, rule breakers, it
can be enough reasons for me to feel these artists the way i do.
My favourite period in Herbie's career is running from "Headhunters" to "Rockit", this complete
decade that see him moving from jazz to fusion electronic sounds in funk.

Detroit legend Kenny LARKIN

Remember those years while producers where doing electronic music with real machines, not only computers. Wasn't the same. Kenny LARKIN was one of the living legends at this moment. He was on PLUS 8 in the early years with the massive compilation "From our minds to yours vol.1" . This "Manik man" is still one of my favourite ones, a good reason to share it down here.

Fela KUTI + Ginger BAKER : Afrobeat rules rolling on

This Fela KUTI song is one of the first i've heard from him around my sixteen year old. I was this kind of teenager completely involved in UK indie pop / US indie rock, already fond of noisy rock like SONIC YOUTH or MY BLOODY VALENTINE and other experiment stuff. But by the day i heard some afrobeat and discovered Fela KUTI, i've never stop to love this particular sound.

Going deeper in the Black President universe you can understand his political texts, involved against racism, discrimination, fighting against what white people did on his continent and you can guess what. And there are still many reasons to fight nowadays... Keep on fighting so.

Please have a special attention on the solo part, beginning at 2min54. One of my favourite music moments, forever.

Sweden meets Detroit, then meets Munich

Aril BRIKHA's first shot already put him in Techno history best tracks forever, it was signed on Derrick MAY's sublabel FRAGILE RECORDS. The magnificent "Groove La'Chord" is still played a lot by many djs and many crate diggers continue to look after it all over the world.

Christian PROMMER has been involved with Roland APPEL in FAUNA FLASH and also helped Rainer TRÜBY or Peter KRUDER in VOOM VOOM project. His heavy experience as a studio composer rejoins until he started the "Drumlesson" project his drummer profile. He has recently delivered his new works in an acoustic, organic way, tributing to some Detroit classics, including this Aril BRIKHA and a fistful of other special goodies. And gives us the proof that techno music is not only depending of the material it's made of. Enjoy it.

DUB TECHNO : Essential style

The story is still quite the same until BASIC CHANNEL & MAURIZIO began in early nineties to open this door in their approach. And it works well like that. Many producers continue this out-of-time story, this very rare material keep focused only on the basic elements of techno : "Time & Space". Dubby analog stuff. Timeless...

Closer to us, DEEPCHORD and ECHOSPACE offered many wonderful pieces in this style.
I can't live without dub techno. Essential music.
